Nursing Assistant

Nursing Assistant

The need for nursing assistants is growing steadily. Most nursing assistants work in nursing homes, long-term care, and long-term acute care settings. This Nursing Assistant program was created at the request of our allied health based affiliates in the Detroit Metropolitan area. The program content is based on information that students will need to know in order to obtain the certification upon completion of the program. Employment opportunities for anyone working in the healthcare field, including nursing assistants, look good for well into the middle of the next century as the ‘Baby-Boomer’ generation reaches retirement age.

This six-week program will prepare students to sit for the state nursing assistant certification exam and work as Certified Nursing Assistants. The CNA candidates perform activities associated with daily living skills for residents of nursing homes, long-term care, and long-term acute care settings.

There are no prerequisites for admission other than a high school diploma or GED. The CNA credential also prepares individuals wishing to pursue a career in nursing as it is often required for entrance into nursing programs in southeastern Michigan.

Space is limited so a deposit is required to hold your spot, as classes fill quickly.

The program consists of five weeks of combined lecture and hands-on clinical lab experience in a state of the art facility. This features a full mock-up patient residential facility, including handicapped equipped restroom. The sixth week of the program sends students off-site in an externship role, arranged by Stautzenberger Institute, allowing students to obtain on-the-job experience with real patients.
